What is alimony

and how do i get it?

In general, the purpose of alimony is to provide financial support to a spouse who is economically disadvantaged as a result of the divorce. Factors that may be considered in determining an alimony award include the length of the marriage, the income and earning potential of each spouse, the standard of living during the marriage, and the contributions of each spouse to the marriage.

Whether or not you will be awarded alimony in your North Carolina divorce case, and whether infidelity by your spouse will be a factor in that decision, depends on the specific circumstances of your case.

The fact that a spouse committed adultery may be considered a factor in determining whether or not to award alimony, as well as the amount and duration of the alimony award.

If your spouse's infidelity has had a significant impact on your financial situation, such as if you gave up a career or job opportunities to support your spouse's career, this may be a relevant factor in determining an alimony award.
